Today (9/28), Hologic received emergency use authorization (EUA) from the FDA for their testing kit for individuals with no symptoms of COVID-19. The CDC recently rescinded their statement saying that asymptomatic people did not need to be tested for COVID-19 and authorized Hologic to use their Panther System test to help detect infection in its earliest stages. This test can provide results in three hours and can process 1,000 tests a day. Although point of care tests do not provide complete relief for highly analytical and thorough laboratory testing, they are an important part of slowing the spread of COVID-19.
