The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) provided guidance that addresses changes to the supply chain due to COVID-19, including its regulatory process for manufacturing and controls (CMS) and chemistry. Materials like glass vials, stoppers, test swabs, and reagents have been affected, as global demand has increased in response to the pandemic. The FDA stated, “The supply of CCS [container closure systems] components for FDA-regulated products generally may become constrained as manufacturers respond to the public health emergency related to COVID-19. As a result, manufacturers of FDA-regulated products may need to update their approved applications to make changes to CCS components to meet current product demand or increase supply resilience.”
