Von einem globalen Kommunkationsstandpunkt aus gesehen ist die Entwicklung des 2019-nCov thematisch allzu bekannt. F\u00fcr Organisationen und Regierungen, die dieses Problem bek\u00e4mpfen k\u00f6nnen, steigt die Nachfrage nach effektiver Kommunikation und koordinierten, kollaborativen Bem\u00fchungen t\u00e4glich.<\/p>\n

Nur der Heldenmut einer Linguistin, die die vorherrschenden Annahmen in Frage stellt, rettet die Situation.<\/p>\n

Das Konzept eines Heldes oder einer Heldin, der oder die in schweren Zeiten in Aktion tritt, bietet ein greifbares und leibhaftiges Hoffnungskonzept mit erstaunlichen Parallelen zu Situationen in der realen Welt. Die Mission der Linguistin, korrekte \u00dcbersetzungen zu erzielen, erinnert an Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, den Generaldirektor der Weltgesundheitsorganisation und dessen Aussage zum Coronavirus: \u201cDies ist eine Zeit f\u00fcr Wissenschaft, nicht f\u00fcr Ger\u00fcchte. Dies ist eine Zeit f\u00fcr Solidarit\u00e4t, nicht f\u00fcr Stigma.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

Google und die Weltgesundheitsorganisation taten sich zusammen, um genaue Tips und Anweisungen zum Coronavirus zu geben, wenn jemand die Suchmaschine nutzt, um Informationen \u00fcber das Thema zu erhalten. TikTok, Facebook und Twitter sind einige der gro\u00dfen Medienplattformen, die daran arbeiten, die Verbreitung von Falschinformationen \u00fcber die Krankheit einzud\u00e4mmen.<\/p>\n

Zur gleichen Zeit hat die Initiative zur Zusammenarbeit auf Politik- und Industrieebene, erg\u00e4nzt durch transparenteres Teilen von Informationen zwischen verschiedenen Nationen T\u00fcren f\u00fcr Unternehmen wie Gilead ge\u00f6ffnet. Nach einem viel versprechenden Testlauf in den Vereinigten Staaten hat das Biopharmaunternehmen eine experimentelle antivirale Medizin namens Remdesivir f\u00fcr die Behandlung der Coronavirus Symptome in China vorgestellt. Diese diverse und collaborative Resonanz auf 2019-nCov steht in engem Zusammenhang mit der Thematik des Films \u201cArrival\u201d, in dem offene und interkulturelle Kommunikation die Welt rettet.<\/p>\n

As a sudden outbreak with untold\r\nglobal health implications, the 2019 Coronavirus exemplifies a crisis scenario\r\nwhere the quality and character of the immediate response has the power to\r\nshape future efforts to tackle this incident and others like it. Seen from a\r\nglobal communications standpoint, the development of 2019-nCov is thematically\r\nall too familiar. As organizations and governments with the power to take up\r\naction, the need for effective communication and a coordinated, collaborative\r\neffort grows more apparent every day.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

In this respect, the Coronavirus\r\noutbreak echoes some of the latest cinematic efforts to tackle the theme of a\r\nglobal existential crisis \u2013 most notably, in the 2016 suspense drama \u201cArrival.\u201d\r\nIn the film, an unknown alien presence reaches different nations on Earth in\r\nseparate ships, immediately calling the world\u2019s major powers to full alert.\r\nWhen a misinterpretation of the alien language causes the world to turn on\r\nitself, threatening mutually assured destruction, it is ultimately the heroism\r\nof a world language expert willing to question prevailing assumptions that\r\nsaves the day. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The concept of a hero in hard\r\ntimes offers a tangible, personified agent of hope with striking parallels to\r\nreal-world circumstances. The mission of the language expert to attain an\r\naccurate translation calls to mind World Health Organization Director General\r\nDr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus\u2019s recent\r\nstatement on the Coronavirus: \u201cThis is the time for science, not rumors.\r\nThis is the time for solidarity, not stigma.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Indeed, it is not heroic language\r\nexperts alone who are stepping forward to advocate for transparency and precise\r\ninformation. Google and the World Health Organization have worked together to\r\nprovide accurate Coronavirus tips and directions when a search is made on the\r\nengine. TikTok, Facebook and Twitter are among the media giants working to curb\r\nthe spread of misinformation surrounding the disease. <\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Meanwhile, the initiative for\r\ncollaboration at the policy and industry levels, complemented by more\r\ntransparent information-sharing between nations, has opened the door for\r\ncompanies like Gilead to step in.\u00a0 Following a promising trial in the\r\nUnited States, the biopharma company has introduced an experimental antiviral\r\nmedicine called Remdesivir as a treatment for Coronavirus symptoms in\r\nChina.\u00a0 The diverse, collaborative response to 2019-nCov relates closely\r\nto the thematic arch in the film, \u201cArrival,\u201d where open, cross-cultural\r\ncommunication prevails to save the world.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

The Coronavirus illustrates the\r\nneed for transparent global communications; without the collaboration of social\r\nmedia platforms and health organizations, Gilead\u2019s treatment would not have the\r\nreach that it presently does.\u00a0 This opportunity for cross-border\r\ncollaboration that the virus presents is something to embrace, not only now,\r\nbut also in the future as we prepare for the next viral outbreak -- regardless\r\nof its country of origin. In this sense we can step up to be our own heroes,\r\nstrengthening our shared global response system to threats like the one we now\r\nface.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n

Our hope at CSOFT, as a team of\r\ndedicated language experts working within China and across the globe, is to be\r\na source of support and leadership wherever possible in the coming phases of\r\nthis global effort.\u00a0 The indispensable role of the work we do, so often in\r\nthe background, has never been so acutely apparent or vital to our own ability\r\nto weather this crisis. We look to our language experts, who possess the power\r\nof cross-border open communication, to bring the message of hope and unite the\r\nglobal community against a common threat, in this case the Coronavirus. As our\r\nteam adapts to these changing circumstances to continue its work delivering\r\nsolutions for stakeholders across the globe, we are finding optimism and hope\r\nin the strength of what we have always valued most: the power of communication.<\/p>\r\n\r\n\r\n\r\n
